Happily Ever After The Mess

There are a whole lot of people who are really angry about how How I Met Your Mother ended its show finale last night. And, in truth, much of the feedback is correct. It was a heavy-handed, disjointed, costume-riddled mess that tried to do too much in 40 minutes.

But, it really doesn’t matter what happened to the individual characters to me. There was a better message and my very extraordinary friend, Amber, nailed it:

HIMYM

Life is a mess. Life is the most complicated thing any human is charged with dealing with. Sometimes we do it well, sometimes we fuck it up beyond all recognition. It’s makes for good television and good reading sometimes, but it’s exhausting in reality.

Hope’s a bad strategy, but amazing friends are not. Time can kill deals, but, given enough of it, it can heal, too. I’d like to think, like Amber said, everything will probably be okay.

Especially if we hold hands.

I’m not angry, but a little disappointed with the way that it ended. Maybe my feeling of being let down is just that it ended, rather than how it did. I’m not sure what else I would have wanted to see, though. I cried like a baby at the end of the show; I hope I’m not the only one!

Oh, man. I cried 3 second in. Then I got frustrated, then I got sad again. If you never took the show too seriously, it was a great run. :)

I don’t have a dog in this fight. I watched one (1!) episode of this show a couple years ago, and I knew in an instant that the Mother in question was dead. How did everyone NOT know that? Just me, then?

You are wiser than, I. I had seen a spoiler/theory a few weeks ago and had the Ah ha! moment about that, so I wasn’t too shocked when it was true.

But, man, I still hated that part. :(
