As kids we have our parents, binkies and stuffed animals, a favorite blanket or even our thumb when we need comfort. But life intervenes as an adult and we can’t always find that hug from mom or dad or grab our Snoopy-printed blankie – eventhough there are days and weeks we desperately need them. Tough days come and hard things happen, but sometimes we find comfort in the smallest things.
I love this post from Danielle at elleinad spir (get it?) about how a tiny necklace brings her comfort when she most needs it.
Do you have a bad day go to item? A sweater or outfit that makes you feel better? A food that comforts you? For me, it is a necklace.
My mom wore this gold and diamond butterfly necklace daily when I was growing up. I can picture it on her neck, with her freckles all around it. I can see the exact place on her neck where it rested, the indention of her neck/collar. I can close my eyes and remember playing with it as she held me. I can breathe in and smell her perfume and feel her arms around me.
On days that I need some extra love…days when I need some extra support…days when I need to feel the embrace of my mom…I wear this necklace. She lives a few states away, but this necklace instantly makes her feel near.
Thanks, Pam, for letting me share my story here today. Please share with me your go-to bad day fix. Let me know what comforts you.
