Sadly, I am not a sewer. I would like to be, but I just don’t have the equipment, the talent, or, really, the motivation. But the moment I laid eyes on this Zadig et Voltaire sweater I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
I could, however, stop thinking about the $470 price tag.
But then I started thinking about other things. I love cashmere, but I don’t get to wear it frequently here in Houston. (Hi, 80 degree October!) Then I started thinking about the makeup of the sweater: a grey sweater with gold leather elbow patches.
I can do this. And I can do this for way less than $470 in a way that I can get some real use out of here in Houston.
A quick trip to Marshall’s for a sweater and a quick trip to the specialty fabric store for gold leather and I was set. Well, except for the whole “can’t sew” part – but I have a fantastic seamstress. Let’s go!
I chose a v-neck sweater because I prefer the ease of that silhouette, but stuck with a great taupey grey neutral. This sweater is going to go from day to night and back again all season long.
Here are the results:
Leather: $ 7.00
Total cost: $37.99
I like every part of that – and I love my new sweater that also fits perfectly into my overall maximizing my wardrobe plan for fall. Grey sweater: check!
