Fall Beauty Focus: Drugstore Edition

The minute the temperatures start to change I am keenly aware of how my skin reacts. While my generally oily skin does not particularly care for the wall of humidity it usually faces here in Houston, it often times needs some assistance when the air dries out as well.

I’m no stranger to beauty products and I’ve been known to indulge in the luxury offerings, but, just like my closet, my beauty routine and choices are a huge mix of high and low. What’s important is that they WORK. Here are a few favorites currently:

Just because the temperatures are dropping is NO EXCUSE to stop wearing sunscreen every day. EVERY DAY. This is light enough to go under makeup and not greasy. You’ll thank me in a few years, trust me.

And while we’re at it, take a second and look at the back of your hands. See that slight dryness and crepe-like texture? THIS IS BAD. You must, must, must (MUST) wear sunscreen on your hands every day, too. And moisturize the hell out of them. We all spend so much time worrying about our face that we forget the delicate skin on our hands that show age and wear WAY faster. Be good to your hands – it’s where some of your best jewelry is worn.

Enter Aquaphor, my miracle jar. I slather my hands and my lips with this constantly to stop dryness and protect my hands. It is an impenetrable barrier to the dry air and I might just be buried with a tub of this stuff. Bonus: Rub it all over your heels to keep them soft. Your foot rub partner will thank you.

Do you know the secret of white eyeliner? PAY ATTENTION. Use a little bit near / around the tear duct area (well-blended) and line the waterline (inside) of your bottom lashes to brighten your eyes and face. MAGICAL. This Jordana eyeliner is a steal at .99! Bonus: Buy another one to use under your nails to whiten them for a quick, natural-looking manicure.

Salon-quality nail polish at your drugstore? Yep! And I cannot wait to put this Essie Midnight Cami on my nails. I love the deep navy blue for when my skin is just a little paler. Striking contrasts are a great look.

All right, your turn. What are your secret drugstore beauty gems?

I always go for drugstore mascaras – since you’re supposed to throw them out every three months, I’m not shelling out $25 or more for a mascara I won’t finish using! My fave is Wet n Wild Mega Protein mascara – gives great length and boost to my wimpy lashes without clumping or thickness!

Almay make-up remover pads. The BEST.

Biore pore unclogging scrub. I use it weekly and whenever I return from traveling. Miracle worker that keeps my skin clear no matter what.

Look forward to seeing the dark blue polish on your toes!
