In Praise of the Nylon Handbag

Recently I went in search of a new every day handbag. I had some rather aggravating criteria which included, sadly, the need to carry THE WORLD in the purse easily and stylishly. The amount of things I must carry around on a daily basis is both astonishing and ridiculous. Because of this, my purse usually weight eight gagillion pounds. Many have attempted to hand me my purse only to look at me like I have concrete blocks in it.

They’re not far off.

Now, I love a leather purse. They are beautiful and durable and chic and any number of other positive adjectives. They also start out weighing a good bit. I knew this time I may have to eschew leather for something lighter – I just wasn’t sure what. But I tried – oh, how I tried. I slid beautiful, textural treasures on to my shoulder. I brought home striking totes fit for a magazine editorial.

But when I loaded all my things into it? My shoulder revolted. No leather this time.

I was a bit disappointed about my options until I stumbled across this lovely Marc by Marc Jacobs “Preppy Nylon Hobo”. It was as if angels burst into song when I saw it online. After taking a trip down to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale to check it out in person I knew it was perfect. Lightweight, stylish and functional – and a perfect bag to transition into Fall.

(Side note: The salesman had to go to the back to pull it out – it wasn’t on the floor yet. It took less than 7 seconds for three other women to “ooh” and “ahh” over it and ask for one as well.)

Nylon has had its issues – namely the everything done with it in the 1980s. Don’t let that get in the way. There are plenty of chic, stylish options now. Almost every major designer has bags constructed of it – and your shoulders and back will thank you.

This design is steller! You obviously know how to keep a reader amused.
Between your wit and your videos, I was almost
moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job.

I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
    Too cool!
