I spend a good deal of time online browsing around. I love that we are not limited these days to stores down the street or stores in our city or even stores in our country. Something I have had to do is start to understand how clothing sizing works internationally.
Size conversion is not an exact science by any means. Measurements can vary by country and even by designer. There has been much discussion about the luxury designers employing “vanity sizing”, or being more generous with their measurements so that customers will feel thinner, which can blow any semblance of size consistency out of the water.
Because of all of this, the best approach is still to be sure and try things on in the store. Sometimes that is not always possible – like when you shop on eBay. In those cases, you’ll have to use some best guess resources, but think ahead if something doesn’t fit. Will you be able to consign it locally? Could you re-list it on eBay and recover your money?
Still, you have to use some sort of resource to make decisions and these are the charts that I use.
