The Caftan: Mrs. Roper Chic is IT This Season!

May 4, 2011

STYLE, WOMEN

Anthropologie “Frida” Maxi Dress, $148.00
Anthropologie “Spectrum” Caftan, $298.00

[I] know. Alluding to an elderly woman who regulary dressed as asylum inmate with huge hair, a butterfly clip and orange lipstick doesn’t always conjure CHIC, but this season? BRING IT, HELEN.

I have to admit I’m a little obsessed with the idea of these. I hate the idea of tighter clothing in the summer down here where humidity is an actual CHARACTER in my life. These just seem so fun and flowy and just BEG for a fabulous outdoor cocktail party with a signature drink.

Calypso St. Barth “Bengal” Printed Caftan, $225.00

Word of advice: These wild prints beg for a gal with some height – either biologically gifted or through some magnificent heels. So if you find yourself vertically challenged, stick with a solid or more subdued print. But bring your A-Game with the bold jewelry.

Yes, you can belt these for a little shape. I like this Fossil Interlock Bar Stretch Belt for this.

What do you think? Will you channel your inner Helen Roper this season?

I love the idea of dressing like Mrs. Roper. I was watching reruns the other day and I thought, “Why don’t women wear those anymore?” And then this post arrived out of the blue. :) I don’t need any help expanding my figure, but I especially love the one with the crazy Medieval sleeves. One more reason to be thin: Dressing like Mrs. Roper.

I am obsessing over the black one. Seriously. I can’t stop thinking about it.

I have been eyeing the black one for about a month but fear I am too vertically challenged. You should totally go for it and I can vicariously live through you and your long legs.;-)
