[Y]ou know that old piece of wisdom that says, “Never grocery shop hungry”? Sometimes it is WRONG.
I spend a lot of time in grocery stores. Partly because I’m unorganized, but also because I really like perusing the aisles, examining the produce, talking to the fish monger and generally loitering among the food. It’s inspirational.
One day I was at Whole Foods and had just turned the corner into the cheese and olive bar section when I saw a small display table full of Vosges products. Front and center was the box of their Caramel Toffee Chocolate Chunk Brownie mix. The rest of the shopping excursion was a blur. I’m fairly sure I blacked out.
OF COURSE I was buying those to try.
I’m not usually a “mix” kind of girl for serious baking efforts, but this was interesting – and organic. It was also $17.00. Now, I’m a big fan of Vosges other products like their Mo’s Milk Chocolate Bacon Bar (not kidding) and their Red Fire Exotic Candy Bar which is like a bite of fantastic Mexican mole in a bar. So I had high hopes for this brownie mix.
I was not disappointed.
A few things you should know:
1. Preparation for these brownies is not like a typical processed food mix. You will need to melt butter and the included sugar together and stir lovingly in a skillet for several minutes. Upside? Your kitchen smells like butter and sugar.
2. There are a few extra steps here and there to acheive maximum ooeygooeyness. Don’t rush any of this. You will handsomely rewarded. Promise.
3. Follow the timing correctly. I baked my brownies for exactly 20 minutes (the lesser of the recommended range because you cannot undo overcooked anything) – and they were perfect.
These are unreal – and ridiculously rich. They are perfect to bring over for a dinner party or to serve at any event. Given the cost and richness of the brownies, I’d skip bringing these to the school Valentine’s Day party, but be sure to include them on your menu for later that night with your significant other. In tub. With strawberries. And champagne.
(Trust me on this.)
Hungry? Good! Just because I love you and believe everyone should eat luxuriously and organically I am going to give away a small bunch of Vosges products for you to try and fall madly in love with. I’m not in cahoots with Vosges in any way — I just really love their stuff and felt like sharing.
Included in this package are the following. Squeeing loudly is allowed and encouraged.
Vosges Mini Barcelona Bar with hickory smoked almonds and grey sea salt (milk chocolate)
Vosges La Parisienne Couture Cocoa Single with 64% pure dark chocolate and Madagascar vanilla bean pieces
