Ladies and gentlemen, The Master has arrived.
Manolo Blahnik charmed and wooed a few hundred Houston women today at the Neiman Marcus Houston Galleria shoe salon – although he didn’t have to work very hard. Houston women have been involved in a torrid love affair with Mr. Blahnik and his fanciful shoes for years. There is many a Texas socialite that could give Carrie Bradshaw’s shoe closet a run for its money and this man was most certainly in his element.
The relationship between Neiman Marcus and Manolo Blahnik goes all the way back to 1983 when his collection was first carried in the Beverly Hills and San Francisco stores. In this special retirement year of Burt Tansky (a longtime mentor of Blahnik), Mr. Blahnik is visiting a handful of stores for a special meet and greet and chance to experience his Fall 2010 line in what can only be described as a cocktail party atmosphere.
Regardless of your opinions on his shoes, you have to give Blahnik credit for creating what is not only a magnificent line of shoes, but a personal brand that is synonymous with luxury, fantasy, glamour and exuberance. His shoes are, quite frankly, a reflection of the man. He commands the room he is in – and he does it with warmth and grace and humor. He is instantly likeable and wickedly charming and when I had a chance to visit with him I immediately thought two things: I would love to have dinner with this man, and he’s so adorably personable he belongs on top of a very expensive cupcake.

If you are near a Neiman Marcus that he is appearing at (the list is below), I highly suggest you pick up a copy of his new coffee table book, Manolo’s New Shoes, filled with his endlessly captivating sketches of his shoes. I have a great desire to rip pages from this book, frame the pictures and hang them all over my bathroom and dressing area. A girl needs some inspiration in the morning, you know?
Not one to waste an opportunity to sit at the foot of a master (was that a pun?), I asked Mr. Blahnik two very important questions. A woman should…
Words to live by, ladies.
