Tonight my family and I will walk into the sanctuary, take our seats and together with thousands of other folks say thank you for what has been an extraordinary year and say sorry for all the things that could have been done better.
My list. It is long. And possibly distinguished. But you know this.
What you may not know is how many people this year gave me the gift of inspiration and clarity. It’s okay. You’ve got much bigger things to deal with – like that whole world peace thing and how on earth the cast of the Jersey Shore are considered famous. Seriously?
For all the things I’ve done wrong this year – the things with intent and without – I am sorry. But you should know that the list could have been so much longer. There are people, your people, who are just walking around, minding their own business and living their lives that helped me be a better person this year.
So this year, I say thank you for them. I pray that they are blessed with love and life and happiness and health. I pray that they know how much they mean to those in their lives. I pray they know how much they mean to me.
So if you would, include them in The Book of Life as well. They may be flawed, too. We all are. But as a thank you for the good they did in my life, I’d like to return the favor.
Thank you for considering my request and I’ll see you this weekend. I’ll be the one in the leopard shoes.
