The 15:30 Challenge Final 15

August 24, 2010

SMARTS, STYLE

I don’t think I’ve thought about my clothes this hard or this strategically in ages.  But, thanks to Felicia’s 15:30 Closet Challenge, I did.  It’s not fall here yet, nor will it be in the month of September unless there is a SERIOUS act of G-d, but I’m so very tired of summer clothes.  The closest I will get to fall is in colors – and so that is my palette.

The Fall by Denial 2010 Collection, by Pam.

So, for the month of September I will come to love or hate the following choices:

15-30 Mosaic

Row 1

Urban Outfitters Black/White Silk blouse.  This is a recent purchase from my trip to Las Vegas.  I am most excited to play with this piece for both dressy and casual ensembles.

Black boatneck tank top.  This is just a good blocking and tackling piece and it a GREAT backdrop for accessories of all types.

Maggie London silk swirl dress.  I have some dressier events this month and this is a favorite go-to dress.  You’ll also see it as a belted tunic I’m guessing over some pants or jeans.  Best part? It has pockets!

Row 2

Old Navy full shorts in caramel and black.  It’s hot here. Also I can wear these with heels and go out if I happen to have a social life in September.

XCVI army green skirt.  I found this at Nordstrom last year and it is very fun to wear.  I wanted a piece with some texture in it for the challenge and this can be worn casually dressy or just run to the store plain.

Row 3

Banana Republic denim shirt.  This is another favorite new purchase because the options with this are ENDLESS.

Banana Republic army green cropped cargos.  These are actually sort of linen-y in feel, but not lightweight.  They go casual to dressy as well and I love them.

Banana Republic black wide-leg pants.  You gotta have a pair of wide-leg black pants in here, right?

Row 4

Tresics grey silky t-shirt.  This is a recent find at TJMaxx actually and it has become an instant favorite.  On trend in color and lightweight for still warm weather I love the shirt very, very much.

Abercrombie & Fitch dark skinny jeans.  Because you have to have jeans in this rotation – heat be damned.

Mossimo black jersey kimono dress.  I bought this as Target fully intending to wear it as a bathing suit cover up and it quickly became a great little dress and tunic.  I love the neckline on it.

Not pictured because they don’t exist yet or are too boring to photograph:

Gap white t-shirt

Crisp white button down

Black pencil skirt

I’m pretty sure this is the final selection.  Now if you’d all collectively pray for some fall weather, that’d be fantastic.  In the meantime, stay tuned!  The challenge launches September 1.

You should really do this.  Will you join me?  Or at least root me on?

    Nice work! I’m still agonizing about my 15; today’s 20 degree temperature drop has thrown me for a loop.

    LOVE that Maggie London dress!

      Thanks! I love it too – and I needed something fun in there. The 20 degree drop shouldn’t matter, right? It’s only adding outerwear potentially – which isn’t counted in the 15. See! Problem solved. Maybe. :)

      Can’t wait to see your choices!

    I love the idea of this challenge, but I have no idea how I could make it work with a full-time office job. Could I cheat and have a suit count as one piece even though it’s two? :-)

      But wouldn’t you WANT it to count for two? That way you can repurpose the skirt/pants and jacket separately? You should totally try to do this. I cannot tell you how downright FASCINATING this process has been. I hope the 30 days is equally as fascinating. {prayforme}

        In my cheating ways, I’d count a full suit as one, but be able to wear the pieces separately. :-)

        Honestly, I could easily do this if it was work clothes only… it’s the weekends that makes it difficult! Also, I have a wedding to attend in September which takes one outfit that I really can’t wear to work or on weekends.

        I like that loungewear doesn’t count, though. Otherwise I’d be totally screwed.

          I have the same issue – one dressyish dress that needs to be in the mix. But I’m so repurposing even that – for the first time ever, actually.

          You can so do this. Just give it a try. Would love to see your Final 15 posted! :)

    This. Is. So. HARD! You have done a marvelous job here of course. I am putting mine off so I can cheat and get ideas. Today I spent at least an hour trying things on I thought would work, only to find that they really didn’t. *sigh*

      TOTALLY understand! That’s why I have to replace my black pencil skirt. {sigh}

      And it IS hard – but also really interesting, isn’t it? When’s the last time you were THIS thoughtful about your wardrobe/collection? I may never shop the same way again. Truly.

      Can’t wait to see what you pick!

    Hi! I followed you here from Felicia’s site – looks like we’re both participating in the challenge! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with your items!

    I also had to do a little futzing with my items based on the summer here (I live in Louisiana). I’m praying for a bit of fall too, if only so I can pull out my boots and tights.

      Well, hi – and welcome to the madness. 😉 I love that you said “futzing”.

      I am so hoping for some cooler weather, but Texas isn’t known for fall in September – and from what I can tell hope’s a bad strategy. BUT! One can dream, right?

      Can’t wait to see how this all plays out —

    Hi! I saw your link on Felicia’s site. I’m doing the challenge too! And like you, I wish it was cooler — it’s so hard being fashionable in the Southern heat. I did a test-run yesterday on wearing a scarf and I’m thinking that may not be an option on non-rainy days, unless I have a portable fan as a secondary accessory… :-}
