Beware the Flip Flop

Old Navy flip flop

This Saturday Old Navy will be selling their flip flops for $1. One dollar is very cheap and flip flops are very versatile in the summer. But, please, I beg you, do not make these colorful bargains your MAIN SHOE. (This goes for you, too, guys.)

They are great for messing around the house. They are great for the pool and the beach. I’ll admit they make it easy at the airport for vacations. But they don’t belong everywhere. I don’t care to see them at restaurants. I don’t care to see them in houses of worship. I don’t care to see them in professional settings or at wedding showers.

Are there dressier versions that can take you farther? Yes – better materials, some embellishments and a slight heel change the game significantly. But let’s try to leave the casual crutch where it belongs, shall we?

Is it just me? Have flip flops become entirely overused?

I wear flip flops pretty much everywhere once it’s warm out, but I don’t really go to many fancy places. :-) I usually wear Reefs, although I do have a pair of the Old Navy ones in silver.

Well, living in the flip-flop capital of Texas, we see them everydamnwhere, and I must agree with you. They are overused crutches that far too many people in ATX put up with because we’re all over here keeping it weird.

Now, having grown up in the outskirts of Houston, where flip flops are for the beach or playing in the neighborhood (or at least they were when I was a kid), I own maybe two pairs total in my wide variety of summer sandals. One hideous pink & black pair that will never see the wrong side of my garden gate, and a pair of cushy Teva Mush flips (with an arch!) that I am in love with.

Is Amazon the best place for a jewelry organizer? Where else would you look?
